Grow Your Business by Overcoming Doubt & Distraction

podcast • April 9, 2025

When you want to grow your business it isn’t just about having a brilliant idea or a killer product, it’s about perseverance, authenticity, and embodying your unique touch.

Today, I am collaborating with Brooke Jefferson, a faith-based business coach, about overcoming self-doubt and distraction on your journey to entrepreneurial success.

3 Main Reasons why women are not making money in their business

The first reason is that we doubt ourselves.

It is our negative mindset that gets in the way of us being able to sell more and serve more.

But it isn’t just about making money and providing for your family and doing all these awesome things, I think that is such a blessing, but we are really impacting people.

I know we, a lot of times, especially for photography, it’s very easy to get caught up and forget the depth and the value of what we bring to the table.

And when we allow our mindsets to get in the way of, I don’t feel cut out for this. I’m going to compare myself to all these other people who look successful, and I’m not at their chapter 20 yet. I’m just on my chapter two over here, and I’m trying to compare myself.

And so, your mindset is the biggest block right now to growing your business. But that’s just the first thing to be aware of is how you’re approaching a situation.

If you constantly get on Instagram every day to share your product and what you have to bring to the world, and you’re immediately thinking, Instagram’s horrible. It doesn’t work for me, then that’s the reality you are producing.

So, how do you overcome this negative mindset?

The mindset battle is something that it it’s going to be an ongoing thing.

I can never just say, here’s the tools. Do this one time. You’re good.

If we even look at the Bible, the Bible tells us to constantly take our thoughts captive, which means they’re going to keep coming, and so we have to decide what we’re going to do with them.

The power of persistence

And this does not just mean for the beginners in business. This is for all of us.

You don’t give something long enough to really take off to grow your business.

And this can be for a product or type of marketing channel you are using.

You’re not giving yourself long enough, and, also, you’re probably not talking about it long enough either to really get people to see it.

I know we think we’re so annoying.

I’ve talked about this thing for two-to-three weeks every day on Instagram, and I’ve barely seen interest.

And then people will still say, what are you talking about? I never saw that or I didn’t get your email. I didn’t see your post.

And so, that the other stat that just really gets me every single time is we used to say three to five touches. That’s all they needed to become a customer. Then it went to seven. Then it went to 12 touch points. And now it’s 36 touch points.

That’s almost discouraging as a business owner when you want to grow your business.

So, you need to be the unicorn that people are looking for. You just have to keep going even when it feels like no one is listening to you and just trust that a lot of people watch and they don’t say anything.

They’re not tapping the heart in your stories. And they’re not hitting reply or clicking on things in your email. They’re just watching, and they’re trying to figure out how long is she going to be here. Let’s see how long she can actually stick to the thing.

Finding your voice and standing out in a crowded market place

It can be very frustrating, especially when you feel like you’re constantly marketing online and you aren’t getting any traction.

It’s that the way that you’re marketing, the way you’re describing your products, the copy on your website, it’s just vanilla.

If I read your copy or I read a post and I’m like, okay. That’s good. But that there’s no there’s no flavor. There’s no boldness. There’s no spiciness here.

If I can’t see your personality and what makes you different, if it just sounds like chatgpt wrote it, it doesn’t really do anything for me.

And so, we have to stop doing that.

For example let me sell you this candle. It smells so good. You can light it every day. It’ll last you three months. That’s really boring. Everyone does that.

So, you could really hone in and you could describe a situation where that candle brings comfort or that candle could be a gift and a light to somebody else.

That’s completely different. That’s how you sell people. You have to put in emotion. You have to put in your personal brand.

Picture is a quote graphic and shows Brook Jefferson smiling at the camera. She was a guest on the She Sells Differently podcast ep 161 titled Growing Your Business by Overcoming Doubt & Distraction and the quote reads "I don't want to see just your products. I have to see you. People will not do business with a faceless brand anymore."

I don’t want to see just your products. I have to see you.

People will not do business with the faceless brand anymore. They just won’t.

We’re never leaving the personal brand era. It is here to stay.

And so, if you’re not showing us how do you make the candle, why did you get into this business, what does a day in your life look like as a candle maker? What are you doing the other 50% of the time when you’re not working? We want to see those things as consumers because it means something.

Everybody in this world wants to feel like they belong, and especially since we’re all faith-based here, be the light.

Make people feel like they have a community and that your brand is going to go above and beyond for them in that way.

Guarding against distraction when growing your business

Distraction. This is when we take our eyes off of what we’re doing and we listen to too many different people.

You need to find one person that walks the walk and has the result that you’re wanting for yourself and your business, and you need to marry them for a year.

Whether that is only doing all their free stuff for one whole year and you’re not listening to anybody else, or if you are listening to something else, it’s in a different category.

That way we’re not muddying the waters because every business owner will tell you something different in a different way.

And so, if we’re listening to too many people, we’re strategy hopping.

We’re getting distracted.

One of them tells you Instagram’s the go to. The next person tells you it’s YouTube. And so, then you’re like, what do I do?

You’re giving everything 15% instead of just staying so focused and going 100% all in with one person in their framework to grow your business.

So, if you’re serious about wanting to grow your business, it’s time to shift your mindset, stay persistent, show up authentically, and guard your focus.

Overcoming doubt and distraction isn’t a one-time fix, it’s a daily commitment to showing up boldly, speaking directly to your audience, and staying aligned with your mission.

Whether you’re just starting or feeling stuck in the messy middle, remember: the power to grow lies in your consistency, clarity, and confidence.
